Working with the Saints

“Some Saints are privileged to extend to us their patronage
with particular efficacy in certain needs, but not in others;
but our holy patron St. Joseph has the power to assist us in
all cases, in every necessity, in every undertaking.”

- ST. THOMAS AQUINAS
So just what does is mean to be a Saint?

Well it's a long process that ends with the church Canonizing a person "for the
beatification of a confessor a miracle attributed to the Servant of God, verified after
his/her death, is necessary. The required miracle must be proven through the
appropriate canonical investigation, following a procedure analogous to that for heroic
virtues. This one too is concluded with the relative decree. Once the two decrees are
promulgated (regarding the heroic virtues and the miracle) the Holy Father decides on
beatification, which is the concession of public honor, limited to a particular sphere.
With beatification the candidate receives the title of Blessed."

And just what is a miracle?

A miracle, or Semeion, is or a "sign" or event with divine significance. A miracle is that
which is beyond the present knowledge and power of the medical or physical sciences.

St. Thomas Aquinas teaches: "Those effects are rightly to be termed miracles which are
wrought by Divine power apart from the order usually observed in nature" (Contra
Gentiles, III, cii) ... "and they are apart from the natural order because they are beyond
the order or laws of the whole created nature." (Sacra Theologica I:102:4)

How do you work with Saints?

That's easy. You just petition them in time of need.

Some petitions are short "O my mother, in your heart I placed all my anguish of my
heart and it is there that I gain strength and courage."

Here is ancient prayer to ST. JOSEPH claimed to be sent in 1505 I from The Pope To
Emperor Charles as he went into battle.

O ST. JOSEPH, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of
God, I place in thee all my interests and desires. O St. Joseph, assist me by thy
powerful intercession and obtain for me all spiritual blessings through thy foster Son,
Jesus Christ Our Lord, so that, having engaged here below thy heavenly power, I may
offer thee my thanksgiving and homage.

O St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating thee and Jesus asleep in thine arms. I dare
not approach while He reposes near thy heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine
head for me, and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath.
St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls, pray for me.

The use of St Joseph today has become very popular when selling a house.

Simply bury a
St. Joseph statue in your yard when you wish to sell your home:

Make a hole in the ground that is large enough to bury the St. Joseph statue (in
protective wrap) vertically.
Place the statue upside down in the ground.
Face the upside down statue TOWARDS the home that is to be sold.
For nine consecutive days, pray the St. Joseph Novena included here.
Once the home is sold, remove the statue from the ground.
Display the statue in a place of honor in the new home.

Opening Prayer
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Come to my aid, O God. O Lord, make haste to help me.
Almighty God, Father of mercies and giver of all good gifts, I come before you to honor
you in your saints and ask their help in my many needs.
You promised those who ask, would receive, those who seek, would find, those who
knock, would have doors opened to them.
Hear the prayers of your church, grant my requests, and pardon my sins. Amen.
St. Joseph, just and true, with a father's care you raised the child Jesus, and with a
husband's love, you shared your life with Mary, his mother.
I entrust myself to your care and place in your hands this request of mine (say request)
….
In quiet Nazareth, long ago, the Holy Spirit spoke to your heart and you followed God's
will with wonderful faith.
In the quiet of my days, and in the hard choices I must make, help me follow the
Spirit's guidance and believe when I cannot see.

Saint Francis’ Canticle of All Creatures

Most High, all-powerful, all-good Lord,
All praise is Yours, all glory, all honour and all blessings.
To you alone, Most High, do they belong,
and no mortal lips are worthy to pronounce Your Name.

Praised be You my Lord with all Your creatures,
especially Sir Brother Sun,
Who is the day through whom You give us light.
And he is beautiful and radiant with great splendour,
Of You Most High, he bears the likeness.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars,
In the heavens you have made them bright, precious and fair.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Brothers Wind and Air,
And fair and stormy, all weather’s moods,
by which You cherish all that You have made.

Praised be You my Lord through Sister Water,
So useful, humble, precious and pure.

Praised be You my Lord through Brother Fire,
through whom You light the night
and he is beautiful and playful and robust and strong.

Praised be You my Lord through our Sister,
Mother Earth who sustains and governs us,
producing varied fruits with coloured flowers and herbs.
Praise be You my Lord through those who grant pardon
for love of You and bear sickness and trial.
Blessed are those who endure in peace,
By You Most High, they will be crowned.

Praised be You, my Lord through Sister Death,
from whom no-one living can escape.
Woe to those who die in mortal sin!
Blessed are they She finds doing Your Will.
No second death can do them harm.

Praise and bless my Lord and give Him thanks,
And serve Him with great humility.

Heavenly Father,
You gave Your servant Francis
great love for each of Your creatures.
Teach us to see Your design in all of creation.
We ask this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
